The Evangelical Alliance of Kenya (EAK) has called on Kenyans to remain hopeful amid national challenges and has outlined key concerns ahead of the 2027 elections.
During a meeting in Nairobi on May 9, EAK leaders from all 47 counties reaffirmed their commitment to fostering unity and addressing pressing national issues.
Citing 1 Peter 1:3, the alliance urged citizens to reject despair and instead work toward rebuilding the nation.
Key Issues Highlighted by EAK
EAK highlighted several key issues, commending the IEBC Selection Panel for successfully reconstituting the electoral commission despite challenges and urging the National Assembly to swiftly approve the newly nominated chairperson and six commissioners to ensure electoral preparedness for the 2027 General Election.
In recognition of the International Day of the Family on May 15, EAK called on churches to dedicate at least 10 minutes on Sunday, May 18, to pray for families and promote strong Christian values, emphasizing that the family is the foundation of a righteous nation.
Addressing concerns over Kenya’s unsustainable public debt, EAK reiterated its call for a National Restoration Convention to tackle fiscal mismanagement, warning that excessive taxation is crippling businesses and exacerbating unemployment.
EAK also criticized the weakening of opposition oversight under the current government, specifically raising concerns about ODM’s dual role in government and opposition, which it deemed untenable, while lamenting the declining public trust in government institutions.
The alliance condemned the rising incidents of extrajudicial killings and land-related conflicts in Narok, Lamu, and the North Rift, pledging to support mediation efforts to prevent election-related violence ahead of the 2027 polls.
Furthermore, EAK questioned the MPs’ push to embed constituency funds in the Constitution, warning against self-serving amendments that could weaken oversight and urging a review through the proposed National Restoration Convention.
Finally, praising last year’s Gen-Z protests against oppressive taxation, EAK demanded meaningful youth participation in national decision-making, emphasizing that Kenya’s future must be shaped with, not for, the youth.
EAK urged Kenyans to unite in prayer and advocacy for justice. The alliance pledged to continue engaging the government and other stakeholders to restore hope in the nation.
