The Sudan Founding Alliance has strongly criticized a recent statement by the UN Personal Envoy to Sudan, accusing him of undermining impartial mediation and legitimate peace efforts in the country.
The controversy stems from a post on Twitter in which the envoy claimed that UN Secretary-General António Guterres welcomed a “roadmap” announced by the self-proclaimed “Government of Sudan.”
The Alliance asserts that this endorsement, if confirmed, signals a dangerous shift in the UN’s stance, revealing a troubling bias toward one party in the conflict—the Sudanese Armed Forces.
By backing a unilateral initiative from a single faction, the UN has strayed from its role as a neutral mediator, risking its credibility and further complicating efforts to achieve a sustainable peace in Sudan.
The Alliance emphasized that the “government” in Port Sudan lacks legitimacy and does not represent the diverse political and social forces within the country.
This faction has been accused of escalating violence, committing atrocities, and refusing to engage in meaningful negotiations. For the UN to legitimize its unilateral proposal, while urging all Sudanese to “enrich” it, undermines the core principles of conflict resolution: fairness, inclusivity, and respect for the realities on the ground.
The statement also highlighted the UN Personal Envoy’s failure to maintain impartiality, noting his increasing alignment with one side of the conflict. This partiality, coupled with the Secretary-General’s alleged endorsement, has rendered the envoy unfit to continue in his role as a neutral facilitator.

The Alliance stressed that the Sudanese people, particularly marginalized and oppressed communities, cannot trust a peace process that appears to favor a single faction. The Sudan Founding Alliance called on the UN and its member states, including Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey, and Kuwait—all of which have recently expressed support for Port Sudan—to correct this bias and advocate for an inclusive and representative dialogue.
Instead of legitimizing an exclusionary and violent regime, the international community must focus on fostering a process that reflects Sudan’s diverse political and social realities. “The Sudanese people deserve a peace process rooted in justice, equity, and genuine reconciliation,” the Alliance stated.
“Any attempt to impose solutions that ignore the true realities of the crisis will only perpetuate instability and injustice.” The Alliance rejected all external efforts to restrict the will of the Sudanese people or impose solutions that do not stem from the realities of the crisis.
It called for a comprehensive resolution that acknowledges all influential forces and ensures justice for all components of Sudanese society. The statement concluded with a call to action, urging international parties to adhere to the principles of international law and recognize the rights of all Sudanese people to determine their own future.
“Justice, freedom, and stability in Sudan can only be achieved through an inclusive process, free from biased external interventions,” the Alliance declared. As the crisis in Sudan continues to escalate, the Sudan Founding Alliance’s statement serves as a stark reminder of the urgent need for impartial and inclusive mediation to achieve lasting peace.
