More than 150 young people in Kisii County have graduated from Huawei’s DigiTruck program, a mobile, solar-powered digital classroom initiative that equips underserved communities with critical digital skills.
The four-week training covered essential competencies, including computer basics, internet navigation, digital marketing, online safety, and entrepreneurship.

The program aims to bridge Kenya’s rural-urban digital divide and prepare youth for a rapidly evolving job market.
Closing the Digital Skills Gap
A 2023 World Bank report reveals only 38% of rural Kenyan youth possess basic ICT skills, compared to 67% in urban areas.
With over 60% of jobs expected to require advanced digital skills by 2030, initiatives like Huawei’s DigiTruck are crucial in leveling the playing field.
Participants also competed in a DigiTruck Innovation Challenge, pitching tech-based solutions to local problems.
The top three winners received tablets and mentorship to bring their ideas to life.
Leaders Hail Program’s Impact
Nominated MP Hon. Irene Mayaka praised the initiative, stating, “These digital skills open doors to global opportunities and financial independence. Huawei’s DigiTruck isn’t just training youth,it’s investing in Kenya’s future.”

Hon. Julius Migos Ogamba, Cabinet Secretary for Education, highlighted the power of public-private partnerships, “The DigiTruck’s success in Kisii proves what happens when government, private sector, and communities collaborate. I commend Computers for Schools Kenya for driving ICT literacy in rural areas.”
Huawei Kenya’s Director of Public Affairs, Mr. Yuta Leng, reaffirmed the company’s commitment, “These graduates prove that with the right training, young Kenyans can become innovators and leaders. We will keep expanding digital inclusion.”
Expanding Kenya’s Digital Superhighway
The Kisii graduation follows recent DigiTruck programs in Baringo, Migori, and Homa Bay, bringing 2025’s total trainees to over 900.
Since 2019, the initiative has trained more than 9,000 youth across 39 counties, supporting Kenya’s Digital Superhighway agenda.
With certificates in hand, the graduates now step into a digital future ready to innovate, create jobs, and transform their communities.
Huawei plans to expand the DigiTruck program to more counties, ensuring no Kenyan is left behind in the digital revolution.
