COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli has expressed his views on the current discussion the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Atwoli has advocated for a reassessment of the role within the government.
Reaffirming his previous statement that the Deputy President’s role should be appointment made by the president instead of being tied to a running mate selection, Atwoli asserted that there would be no spectacle like the one currently observed.

He contended that the current situation creates a perception of shared authority, leading officeholders to feel entitled to equality with the president, which he emphasized should not exist.
“The deputy president should be an appointee of the president, because once he becomes a running mate he feels he is also a president,” he said.
“A deputy president should not be heard unless he has been told so. We can’t have two presidents at a time,” he noted.
