Award-Winning Dramas, Hit Sequels, and Must-See Showmax Originals Land This Month

Showmax is unleashing a powerhouse lineup of streaming content this September, headlined by Oscar-winning films, a record-breaking documentary, and a highly anticipated local comedy.

The month kicks off with a major double feature on Thursday, 5 September. The platform premieres the gritty South African comedy Khaki Fever and the critically adored epic The Brutalist on the same day.

Khaki Fever follows a group of game rangers who launch a secret competition to crown the ‘King of Khaki’ by hooking up with the most tourists.

The crew must outsmart their conservative lodge manager, Anel, who will fire anyone caught fraternising with guests. SAFTA nominee Christopher Japhta leads the cast, supported by Francois Jacobs, who won a Silwerskerm award for his performance.

This original comedy sold out its premiere and marks director Brett Michael Innes’s second feature after the internationally recognised Daryn’s Gym.

Also launching on the 5th, The Brutalist tells the story of a Hungarian Jewish architect rebuilding his life in America after surviving the Holocaust.

The film dominated awards season, winning three Oscars, including Best Actor for Adrien Brody, three Golden Globes, and over 120 other awards.

Critics hailed the Brady Corbet-directed drama as “exhilarating” and “an instant classic.”The intrigue continues on Monday, 8 September with Conclave.

This Oscar-winning thriller places Ralph Fiennes at the centre of a web of conspiracy as a cardinal tasked with electing a new pope.

The film, directed by Edward Berger (All Quiet on the Western Front), won the Oscar for Best Adapted Screenplay and over 80 international awards.History unfolds on Thursday, 11 September with September 5.

The film chronicles the 1972 Munich Olympics hostage crisis through the eyes of a American sports broadcasting team forced into breaking news coverage.

The Oscar-nominated drama holds a 92% rating on Rotten Tomatoes and unveils the moment that forever changed live television.Action fans can gear up for Den of Thieves: Pantera on Monday, 15 September.

Gerard Butler and O’Shea Jackson Jr. return for the #1 box office hit sequel, teaming up for a massive heist of the world’s largest diamond exchange.

The Unbreakable Boy arrives on Sunday, 21 September, telling the inspirational true story of a family raising a son with autism and brittle bone disease. Zachary Levi and Meghann Fahy star in the heartwarming drama.

On Monday, 22 September, June Squibb stars in the action-comedy Thelma. The 94-year-old Oscar nominee plays a grandmother who embarks on a mission across Los Angeles to confront a phone scammer.

The film earned her a Critics Choice Super Award for Best Actress in an Action Movie and boasts a 98% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The month closes with magic on Friday, 26 September as Iyanu: The Age of Wonders debuts. This all-Nigerian animated feature, set 500 years before the rise of the hero Iyanu, follows young warriors battling an emerging darkness in Yorubaland.
