Azimio leaders have called for the immediate resignation of Police Inspector General Japheth Koome and Nairobi Commander Adamson Bungei following the tragic shooting of Rex Masai and the injury of other protesters.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and other Azimio leaders are demanding the resignation of Police General Japheth Koome and Nairobi Commander Adamson Bungei.

The leaders are also urging for charges to be brought against the two officers in light the tragic shooting of Rex Masai and the injury of other protesters. Additionally, the leaders are advocating for the release individuals who were arrested during the Occupy Parliament demonstrations against the 2024 Finance Bill.

“As Azimio we demand that Inspector General Japheth Koome and Nairobi Regional Commander Adamson Bungei immediately tender their resignation for failing to protect the peaceful demonstrators. We also demand that the Director of Public Prosecutions bring charges against Koome, Bungei, and their rogue officers for the murder of Rex,” the statement read.

“Rex, like all his comrades, was peaceful, unarmed, and non-violent. But he was senselessly gunned down,” Azimio stated.

The leaders offered condolences to Rex’s family and vowed to assist them in their pursuit of justice

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and the community that has suffered such a terrible loss. We pledge to offer all the help required in seeking answers and justice,” Kalonzo added.

They called on Kenyans to recall all MPs who voted in favour of the Finance Bill at its second reading, noting that 204 MPs had ignored the ongoing problems.
