BIC Unveils Art Master Africa Winners

BIC, a global leader in stationery, lighters, and shaving products, has announced the regional and national winners of the sixth edition of its prominent ballpoint pen art competition, Art Master Africa this year, the competition invited artists to express their interpretation of “Ubuntu”), which is the theme for year’s event, utilizing the classic BIC ballpoint pen.

The theme inspired artists to explore the African philosophy of Ubuntu, which highlights the importance of interdependence and collective harmony, through the use of the iconic BIC ballpoint pen. Emmanuel Wandera, a talented Kenyan artist titled “Villagers.”


Art Master Africa has revealed three regional winners and six national winners in its latest competition. Information about the winning artworks can The top regional winner received a Master Metaverse gallery, and a chance to be included in BIC’s global Art Collection.

Second and third place winners received a cash prize of USD 1,000 and USD 500 respectively. All six national winners received a cash prize of USD 500 each.

Commenting on the occasion, Gregory Alibaux, Art Master Africa custodian, and Marketing Director for Middle East and Africa at BIC, said: “We are proud of running Art Master Africa for the sixth year in a row. The competition has come a long way, starting in South Africa in 2017 and expanding into the wider region. It has brought to life phenomenal talent from across the region and is a testament to our commitment to unleashing creativity using writing tools and living up to our vision of bringing simplicity and joy to everyday life through our products. We continue to be
in awe every year after seeing the submissions we receive from the region, and we are confident that we will continue to help more talent surface through this flagship competition.”

Judge Gary Eric remarked on the artwork, stating, “The pieces we received truly showcase the remarkable talent and creativity found across the African continent. Each artwork the unique abilities of the artists while embodying a broader theme of unity and harmony within African communities. The judging panel was genuinely impressed submissions.”

National winner Emmanuel Wandera shared his excitement, stating, “Being part of the BIC Art Master Africa competition has been a remarkable experience. I feel truly establishing such an inspiring platform for African artists, and I urge others to participate and express their creativity on a global stage.”


BIC Art Master Africa is an art competition that launched in South Africa in 2017 and later expanded across the African continent in 2019 and the Middle East in 2021. The competition continues to grow each year, providing a platform for emerging artists to showcase their work,
explore their creativity, and share their stories through the art of ballpoint pen drawings. Earlier this year, BIC launched its first-of-its-kind Art Master Africa Metaverse Gallery.
