Bunge La Mwananchi has expressed its profound gratitude to His Excellency President William Ruto of Kenya for his unwavering support of the Right Honourable Raila Amolo Odinga’s candidacy for the African Union Commission (AUC) Chairperson.
The organization also extended heartfelt congratulations to Raila Odinga for presenting a visionary and transformative agenda for the African Union, regardless of the outcome of the election. Raila Odinga, a seasoned statesman and veteran politician, was not merely a candidate but a symbol of Africa’s voice, struggles, and aspirations.
His bid for the AUC leadership echoed the dreams of the continent’s founding fathers, who envisioned a united and prosperous Africa. Bunge La Mwananchi emphasized that Kenya remains deeply grateful for the support it received from 22 African heads of state, whose solidarity has strengthened bilateral and multilateral ties across the continent.

However, the organization did not shy away from addressing the disappointment felt towards leaders from other African nations who chose not to support Kenya’s candidate. “To the rest of Africa’s leaders who chose to look elsewhere, we have taken note of your stance. Sooner rather than later, you will realize the vision you lost, and your own countrymen will hold you accountable for this regrettable decision,” the statement read.
Security Agencies Praised for Professionalism
Bunge La Mwananchi also took the opportunity to commend Kenya’s security system for its exemplary performance during the AUC campaigns. Under competent leadership, the security apparatus provided the necessary support to ensure the safety of Raila Odinga and his delegation as they traversed the continent in search of votes.
The organization noted that no security lapses were recorded during the campaign period, a testament to the professionalism and dedication of Kenya’s security forces.
“Our security system deserves a special place for its role in ensuring the safety of Kenya’s candidate and his delegation. Their efforts were critical to the AUC campaign, and we are proud of their service,” the statement added.
Condemnation of Politicians’ Blame Game
Despite the nation’s collective efforts to rally behind Raila Odinga’s candidacy, Bunge La Mwananchi expressed deep disappointment with a section of politicians who have resorted to blaming the security apparatus for the AUC loss.
The organization described these accusations as “ridiculous” and “unfortunate,” particularly when they come from legislators who allegedly misused public resources during their trip to Addis Ababa without contributing meaningfully to the campaign.
“These traditional and seasoned politicians failed to mobilize their political acumen and expertise to deliver the much-needed victory. Instead, they have chosen to divert attention by blaming the security agencies for their own failures,” the statement read.
Bunge La Mwananchi criticized this behavior as unprofessional and a continuation of the old, divisive tactics employed by some politicians to shift blame onto the intelligence and security services.
The organization called on the people of Kenya to reject such rhetoric and uphold the integrity of the country’s security agencies, which are constitutionally mandated to protect the nation.

Call for Accountability and Discipline
In a strong concluding message, Bunge La Mwananchi urged the leadership of political parties in Parliament to take disciplinary action against members who disrespect the professionalism and competence of Kenya’s security forces.
“We call on the people of Kenya to foster a spirit of condemnation and reject any attempt by political leaders to drag our security agencies into their blame games. Such actions undermine the integrity of our institutions,” the statement emphasized.
The organization reaffirmed its confidence in Kenya’s seasoned diplomats and politicians, who are well-trained to undertake diplomatic and political enterprises at the continental level. It called for unity and a renewed commitment to the nation’s progress, urging leaders to focus on constructive engagement rather than divisive politics.
As Kenya reflects on the AUC campaign, Bunge La Mwananchi’s statement serves as a reminder of the importance of unity, professionalism, and accountability in achieving the nation’s aspirations on the continental stage.
