Hon. Beatrice Elachi, Member of Parliament for Dagoretti North, today launched the Huawei DigiTruck Digital Literacy Programme at Lavington Girls Secondary School, firing the starting gun on a major youth empowerment drive.
Top Huawei executives Eng. Maureen Mwaniki, Government Relations Director, and Ms. Khadija Mohammed, Director of Communications and Public Affairs, joined the launch, reaffirming the tech giant’s commitment to expanding digital opportunities across Kenya.
The programme immediately enrolled 250 local youth, who started hands-on digital training at Lavington Primary School.
The intensive course will run until December 22nd, 2025. Upon graduation, participants will receive certificates and compete in an innovation challenge for prizes including laptops, tablets, and smartwatches.
Speaking at the launch, Hon. Elachi underscored the critical nature of digital skills. “Digital skills are no longer a luxury; they are the new foundation of opportunity for our young people,” she stated.
She emphasized the programme’s potential to open doors to jobs, online businesses, and global networks for Form Four leavers.
Elachi also highlighted the rapid adoption of digital and green technologies in areas like Kawangware, from electric bikes to mobile-based services.
She urged the youth to evolve from consumers to creators. “This training will empower our youth and transform the entire community,” she added.
Eng. Maureen Mwaniki encouraged participants to seize the opportunity, noting the DigiTruck’s high demand across the country.
She explained that Dagoretti North secured the programme partly due to its proximity to Huawei’s offices, showcasing the company’s focus on uplifting neighbouring communities through sustainable digital initiatives.
The Huawei DigiTruck forms part of the company’s global mission to bridge the digital divide by delivering practical, economic skills to underserved populations.
