In a call to action for improved health accessibility, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has urged Kenyans to sign up for the Taifa Care program, an essential component of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) initiative prioritized by the Kenya Kwanza administration. Speaking during a visit to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) alongside Health Cabinet Secretary Deborah Barasa, Kindiki highlighted alarming concerns regarding the current low registration numbers for the program.
The tour at Kenyatta National Hospital was to assess implementation and engage with patients and health workers to establish aspects that require improvement.
“17 million Kenyans are now registered under Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage(UHC) program- Taifa Care. While most of the teething problems have been resolved, The Government is streamlining all outstanding issues to ensure that hospitals provide services in an efficient and timely manner,” read his statement on his X page.
“This time, we will succeed because we have learned from the challenges of previous attempts to implement the healthcare system. We will monitor progress closely and address any loopholes.
Kindiki emphasized the potential advantages for Taifa care initiative while also revealing his intention to tour hospitals across rollout. The initiative is designed to tackle significant health concerns within in response to President William Ruto’s recent order to the Ministries of Health and Education to enroll every student in the Taifa Care program as part of the Universal Health) initiative.
