DStv Crowned #1 Most Admired African Media Brand in 2025

By Eddah Waithaka

DStv, Africa’s leading entertainment platform, has claimed the top spot as the #1 Most Admired African Media Brand in the Brand Africa 100 | Africa’s Best Brands 2025 rankings.

The prestigious recognition also secures DStv’s induction into the Brand Africa Hall of Fame, an honor reserved for iconic African brands that have shaped the continent’s global image and competitiveness.

Brand Africa announced the accolade at a high-profile ceremony hosted at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) in Addis Ababa, where industry leaders and brand experts gathered to celebrate Africa’s most influential brands.

Since its launch in 1995, DStv has revolutionized Africa’s entertainment landscape, growing from a digital satellite TV pioneer into a content powerhouse.

The brand has redefined African viewing through cutting-edge innovation, investment in local storytelling, and a deep commitment to showcasing authentic African narratives.

Calvo Mawela, Group CEO of MultiChoice, stated, “This honor reflects the incredible journey we’ve taken with our audiences across Africa. Being named Africa’s most admired media brand and joining the Brand Africa Hall of Fame isn’t just about our past—it reaffirms our future. We remain dedicated to local storytelling, cultural authenticity, and innovation. DStv isn’t just an entertainment brand; we connect and uplift Africans through stories that matter.”

The Brand Africa 100 rankings emerge from independent research spanning over 30 African countries, representing 85% of the continent’s population and GDP.

The survey captures 150,000 brand mentions and evaluates 5,930 unique brands, making it the most comprehensive, research-driven brand equity study in Africa.

Leading research firms, including GeoPoll, Kantar, Integrate, and Analysis, conducted the study. DStv’s Hall of Fame induction solidifies its role not just as a media leader but as a cultural force driving Africa’s creative economy.

By investing in local productions, collaborating with African creators, and delivering premium storytelling, DStv continues to shape narratives and inspire pride across the continent.

This marks DStv’s second consecutive year as Africa’s most admired media brand, following its 2024 win.

Over its 30-year journey, DStv has expanded from 16 channels to a dynamic multi-platform network, offering hundreds of channels, streaming services, and locally produced content that resonate with millions of African households.

As DStv enters the Hall of Fame, it reaffirms its mission: to entertain, connect, and celebrate Africa’s vibrant stories.
