More than 100 women running micro-enterprises under the ROSE Women’s Foundation Programme have benefited from free digital and financial literacy training organized by Diamond Trust Bank (DTB).
The event, held at the bank’s headquarters in Nairobi, marked DTB’s celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD) and aimed to equip women entrepreneurs from informal settlements with essential skills to thrive in the digital economy.
The training workshop brought together women from diverse backgrounds, offering them practical insights into digital literacy, social media marketing, and effective management of chamas (informal savings groups).
Industry experts led the sessions, focusing on empowering participants to harness digital tools for business growth and financial management.
Driving Economic Growth
Through Empowerment Azmaira Thobani, DTB’s Head of Sustainability and Communications, commended the women for their role in building Kenya’s economy and encouraged them to embrace digital transformation.
“At DTB, we recognize that empowering women entrepreneurs is key to driving economic growth and financial inclusion through our financial literacy training programme,” said Thobani.
“By equipping them with digital literacy skills, we are enabling them to expand their businesses, create employment opportunities, and contribute to sustainable development.”
The training covered a range of topics, including understanding target audiences, leveraging digital platforms for marketing, and building brand awareness to drive engagement and sales.
Participants also learned how to digitize chama operations, from onboarding members and managing personalized wallets to facilitating seamless transactions and generating financial reports.
Transforming Lives Through Knowledge
Jane Thige, an attendee and beneficiary of the ROSE Women’s Foundation, shared how the training had transformed her perspective on using digital tools. “I have always owned a smartphone, but I only used it for communication and payments,” said Thige.
“Today’s workshop has opened my eyes to the power of digital marketing. I now understand how to use social media and digital tools to market my products, reach more customers, and increase my sales. I am truly grateful to DTB for this opportunity. With the information I have gathered today, I believe I can grow my business to a larger scale.”
A Commitment to Financial Inclusion
The initiative is part of DTB’s broader commitment to fostering financial inclusion and empowering women entrepreneurs with the knowledge and resources they need to scale their businesses.
By addressing the unique challenges faced by women in informal settlements, the bank aims to create a ripple effect of economic empowerment that benefits families and communities.
