Joho Takes Over as Cabinet Secretary in Handover Ceremony

In a significant leadership transition, CS Hassan Joho has officially taken over as the new Cabinet Secretary of Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime Affairs, succeeding Salim Mvurya. The handover ceremony took place at the ministry’s headquarters in Nairobi, marking a new era for the ministry as Joho prepares to implement his vision for sustainable resource management and economic growth in the sector.

Joho exuded confidence, saying he would create job opportunities for the country’s youth.

“I strongly believe that this ministry shall be the next frontier in both wealth and job creation for our country and I will work closely with the team from the ministry, my Cabinet colleagues and stakeholders to help achieve this aspiration,” Joho said, commenting on X.

Joho was officially sworn in on Thursday along with 18 other newly appointed cabinet members in a ceremony by President William Ruto.

During his appearance before the National Assembly Committee on Appointments, Joho outlined a 10-point strategy aimed at revitalizing the ministry.

Upon taking office, he stated that his first priority would be to break up cartels.

He also unveiled his plan to turn around the department. The first step is to digitize all department processes.

Joho’s goal is to create an open source repository for information access, as well as local capacity building for technology system control.

The new CS went on to say that he will be a listening CS and will involve and have dialogue and exchange of ideas with all stakeholders.

“I will engage the private sector through public-private partnerships…conduct regular accountability briefings for public engagement,” he said.
