In a significant boost for law enforcement personnel, the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) has announced an increase in the basic salary of entry-level police officers from KSh 21,645 to KSh 25,645. The decision, announced by Commission Chairman Eliud Kinuthia on Thursday, is in response to recommendations made by the David Maraga-led task force aimed at improving the welfare and motivation of police officers across the country.
Speaking at a press briefing, Eliud Kinuthia, the chairman of the commission said, “In line with the mandate of the National Police Service Commission, the Commission has reviewed and increased the salaries of Police Constables from a basic salary per month on entry from Sh21,645 to Sh25,645 which is an increase of Sh4,000 higher,” he said.
Kinuthia confirmed that the most senior police officers will receive a basic monthly gross salary of not less than Sh50,145. This amount includes all additional allowances granted to them, which are capped at a maximum of Sh69,640.

“Our structure allows a police officer to serve up to 20 notches of salary increment each year. Those who begin start at notch one which is Sh 21, , 645 the following year they move to notch two and you serve in that one rank for up to 20 years if promotion does not come and that structure allows that,” he stated.
