ODM Urged to Harmonize Elections Without Sparking Chaos

By Eddah Waithaka

Dagoretti North MP Beatrice Elachi has accused the party’s national election committee of undermining unity among delegates.

Speaking during a meeting with delegates on Thursday, Elachi demanded that ODM leader Raila Odinga ensure fairness in the ongoing party processes.

“We are telling our party chairperson Gladys Wanga and our party leader Raila Odinga, enough is enough. We must reorganize Dagoretti North and restore its former structure,” Elachi declared.

Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai also slammed the election board chairperson, alleging an attempt to impose an illegitimate list featuring outsiders.

Several other MCAs pressed ODM to act swiftly and reclaim the party’s democratic reputation. The tension escalated as delegates gathered at Lovington High School, where they confronted the committee over repeated delays.

“Last November, you took us to a workshop in London. We cooperated, submitted our results, and waited. Now, you return demanding harmonized lists, we complied. Then you forced a repeat election, despite our objections. Today, we draw the line,” a delegate stated.

The delegates warned against further provocations, vowing to resist intimidation. “We have peacefully tolerated enough. Now, we will defend our positions. If you push us, we will occupy the ODM offices daily. We were elected, and we will not be bullied,” they declared.

The group finalized its leadership list, naming a chairperson, secretary, and organizing secretary, insisting on recognition without compromise.

“In Dagoretti North, two structures will exist, ours and yours. We will not back down,” they asserted. With tensions rising, ODM faces mounting pressure to resolve the dispute before it spirals into full-blown chaos.
