The United Opposition coalition has accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of orchestrating a massive voter bribery scheme and misusing state resources, leveling serious allegations just days before the November 27th by-elections.
Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka publicly claimed the coalition possesses evidence that Kenya Kwanza agents are offering voters up to Ksh. 5,000 to photograph their ballots as proof of voting for administration-backed candidates.
“In the rogue regime’s desperation to rig the forthcoming by-elections, they have directed voters to take pictures of their vote at the voting booth,” Kalonzo stated.
He called on the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to immediately intervene, demanding it educate voters on poll station rules and punish anyone soliciting photographic proof of votes.
The opposition leader also directly implicated government officials in the campaigns, accusing them of illegally deploying state resources to drum up support for their candidates. He promised imminent legal action against the administration.
“The amount of resources this administration has used in this by-election is incredible. They must face up to the consequences,” Kalonzo said. “We have called them out; our lawyers will be taking up this matter.”
The coalition further raised alarms over the ongoing voter registration process, warning that issues now could undermine both the by-elections and the 2027 General Election.
Leaders specifically questioned the new iris-scanning technology, the decision to limit registration to constituency offices, and the deployment of registration kits.
“Every transfer should begin with a written request from the voter and only proceed after full verification of residence,” Kalonzo insisted.
The United Opposition concluded that the new IEBC leadership has yet to earn the trust of Kenyans and must urgently prove its independence from political influence.
