A wave of early 2027 campaigns is gaining pace in the country with former President Mwai Kibaki’s PNU party vowing to mount aggressive grassroots programmes in the coming days.
The Party of National Unity which is currently under the leadership of ex-Meru Governor Peter Munya announced on Wednesday that the road to 2027 has just but started because “Kenya is in ICU”.
Munya declared that Kenya’s “problems cannot wait” and that the Opposition must stand up to be counted in liberating the country.
“From here we shall be in Meru and Murang’a in our next two stopovers in the coming two weeks. Kenya’s problems cannot wait and we must speak to the people,” Munya said.
He said the party would traverse the entire country recruiting members and revamping its networks ahead of 2027.
Speaking during an event to mark PNU’s 15th anniversary, Munya said the government has let Kenyans down on many fronts including overseeing a dilapidated economy.
PNU was the late President Kibaki’s political vehicle that delivered him to the State House for a controversial second term in 2007 following violence that claimed hundreds of lives.
Kibaki was declared winner of the disputed polls against in which ODM’s Raila Odinga was his closest rival.

“Let us not have parochial interests, what matters is opportunity, if your brother messes up the economy and you can’t take your kids to school, you have no business with that person,” Munya said.
The immediate former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary regretted that the Kenya Kwanza government had made life unbearable through heavy taxation which mainly targets sectors that feed Kenyans.
“Agricultural products are not taxed unless there is value addition, the government is taxing everything and now it is going for Mama Mboga and Avocado,” he said.
“This is the Mama Mboga you said you were to help and yet you are following her to the kitchen where she has kept her poultry.”
Munya who was joined at the event by other Azimio leaders including opposition leader Raila Odinga and DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa said Kenya is in ICU.
“We are in ICU, we can’t wait, Baba lead us to save the country so that we can restore our economy and move forward, if we continue like this, Kenya cannot be the same as now in three years,” Munya warned.
The ex-CS, who supported Raila’s presidential bid in the 2022 polls, said that the government was being run by international financial institutions.
“The government has left the World Bank and the IMF to rule this country…Kibaki had said ‘no’ to that and that is how our country developed,” he said.
“The country is captured, the real state capture is now, every sector of the economy has been captured and no sector is working. The dairy sector and the coffee sectors are not working yet we were told that the cartels were to be chased away.”
