The National Police Service (NPS) has cast doubt on Juja MP George Koimburi’s reported abduction, suggesting it may be tied to an active land fraud investigation targeting the lawmaker.
Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja addressed reporters at Jogoo House, outlining key findings in the case.
He confirmed that police began investigating after a video, purportedly showing Koimburi abandoned at a Juja coffee farm, circulated online and in mainstream media.
However, officers who rushed to the scene uncovered inconsistencies. “We compared the video’s vegetation and road layout with the actual site and found clear mismatches,” Kanja stated.
The farm’s caretaker, employed by businessman Jimmy Wanjigi, denied witnessing any abduction.
Investigators later learned that Koimburi arrived at Plainview Hospital in Ruiru in his own car, driven by Frida Njeri—the same person who first reported the incident.

Hospital staff refused to disclose his medical details, leaving his alleged injuries unverified.
A specialized DCI unit, backed by forensic analysts, has now taken charge of the probe.
While five witnesses have given statements, police say the MP’s family has denied them access to question him directly.
Kanja revealed that Koimburi faces imminent prosecution in a land fraud case, with the DPP already approving charges.
Days before the abduction report, the MP allegedly dodged arrest on May 23 by fleeing on a motorcycle with his bodyguard and disabling his phone. Police arrested his driver but released him after questioning.
“The timing of this abduction story demands scrutiny,” Kanja said, urging tip-offs via toll-free lines 999, 911, 112, or #FichuakwaDCI (0800 722 203).
The NPS pledged a thorough, transparent investigations.
