RTI Celebrates 61st Graduation Ready to Drive Kenya’s Railway Revolution

The Railway Training Institute (RTI) recently celebrated a major milestone with its 61st graduation ceremony at the Main Campus in Nairobi. This event recognized the achievements of a new cohort of graduates, all of whom are now prepared to contribute to the rapidly growing railway sector in Kenya.


Speaking at the event, Mr. Mohamed Daghar, Principal Secretary of the Ministry of Transport, served as the Chief Guest and commended the graduates for their dedication and hard work. He emphasized the vital importance of the railway sector to Kenya’s infrastructure development and economic growth.

Mr. Daghar encouraged the graduates to use their skills to transform the country’s transport system, highlighting their potential impact on the future of rail transport in the country.

“Your graduation today comes at a time when Kenya’s railway sector is undergoing a tremendous transformation. You are now equipped with the knowledge and skills to contribute meaningfully to this transformation.” PS Daghar stated.


Philip Mainga, the Managing Director of Kenya Railways, shared comparable thoughts, underscoring the critical importance of education and training in improving operational efficiency within the industry.

He pointed out that Kenya Railways is actively investing in the professional growth of its workforce and acknowledged the significant role that RTI has played in equipping skilled personnel to address the sector’s needs.

During the ceremony, diplomas and certificates were awarded to graduates who had successfully completed a range of courses in railway operations, engineering, and management. RTI’s extensive training programs aim to provide graduates with the technical knowledge and leadership abilities needed to tackle the challenges faced by contemporary railway systems.

Further, the Chairman of the RTI Board of Governors expressed appreciation to the government, Kenya Railways, and other stakeholders for their ongoing support of the institute’s mission to develop highly qualified professionals in the railway sector.

The 61st graduation ceremony at RTI highlights the institution’s dedication to excellence in training, reinforcing its role in ensuring the railway industry thrives with skilled professionals who can propel growth and modernization within the sector.

Present at the event were distinguished personalities from Kenya’s railway sector, including Kenya Railways Chairman Abdi Duale and Managing Director Philip Mainga. The Chairman of the RTI Board of Governors, along with senior management teams from both RTI and Kenya Railways, congratulated the graduates and emphasized the critical role of a well-trained workforce in the railway industry.
