A powerful new tale of buried secrets and shattered lives premiered last night, as Maisha Magic Plus launched its latest original drama series, Qutu.
The series follows Daniel Ziwanda (Yusuf Ali), a young man who abandons his pregnant girlfriend, Frida, in their rural village to seek fortune in the city.
After initial struggles, a wealthy benefactor transforms him into the formidable businessman Colonel Ziwanda. Years later, Frida’s failing health and her son Ray’s discovery of old love letters shatter the peace.
Ray (newcomer Nelson Mandela) now embarks on a determined quest to find the father he never knew.
His explosive reunion with Colonel Ziwanda unleashes a storm of suspicion and jealousy, especially when Ziwanda’s wife, Sauda, uncovers the truth.
“Qutu mirrors the society we live in,” said producer Mwanamisi Ally. “It explores how secrets and stigma can destroy lives, but also how redemption remains possible.”
Director Lawrence Lector praised his team. “We created a world that feels real and emotionally raw. Every character carries a truth they fear to face.”
The star-studded cast features Mercy Kidiwa, Missy Ally, John Mbura, Mixollis Kobogenza, and renowned TikToker Aisha Mohammed.
Rambu Media and Atiza Productions, the creative engine behind Tehanani, produce the series, with Fakii Kasoloi penning the scripts.
Catch the drama on Maisha Magic Plus (DStv Channel 163 / GOtv Channel 3), with new episodes airing Monday to Friday at 7:30 PM.
