Shell Autocross Championship Ignites Kiambu with Thrills and Spectacle

The second round of the Shell Autocross championship roared to life in a spectacle of pomp and color at the 300-acre Twisty 2 Track Circuit in Kiambu County.

Hundreds of motorsport fans gathered to watch 40 drivers compete for top honors in a thrilling display of speed and skill.

Amid the action, Vivo Energy Kenya MD Peter Murungi announced the group’s long-term commitment to the 2025 Autocross championship.

Murungi emphasized that this pledge underscores Vivo Energy’s dedication to nurturing Kenya’s motorsport talent and supporting the sport’s growth.

Reflecting on Shell’s 75-year legacy in global motorsport, Murungi said, “We are committed to supporting autocross and cultivating new motorsport talent. Our aim is to reignite the success of legends like Joginder Singh and Shekhar Mehta, ensuring their legacy lives on.”

The event saw fierce competition across multiple categories. Rajveer Thethy dominated the 4WD class, clocking the fastest time of the day at 06.14 after three heats. Harpreet Singh Bhogai clinched victory in the 2WD Turbo Buggy category, while Neel Gohil emerged triumphant in the Open Class.

Notable winners included Jose Sardinia (4WD Non-Turbo), Cheche Ababa (Cadet Junior), Alan Bengi (Beta Junior), and Sean Njumbi (Alpha Junior). Clerk of Course Mindo Gatimu praised the event’s success with over 40 crews in the new format.

Gatimu noted that the increasing turnout and competitive spirit reflect the Shell Autocross championship’s rising popularity, leaving fans excited for the next round after thrilling performances at the Twisty 2 Track Circuit.

Kenyan motorsport’s future looks brighter than ever with renewed talent development and a nod to its rich history.
