Sugar, Secrets, and Scandal: New Telenovela ‘Lazizi’ Premieres in October

By Editor

From the producer of the hit show Selina comes a gripping new telenovela, Lazizi, set to premiere this October on Maisha Magic Plus.

The show, a production by Multan, boasts a stellar cast including Mwaniki Mageria, Wilbroda, Hellen Keli, and Joel Otukho, alongside newcomers Isaac Okoyo, Evelyne Gitonga, Vivian Nyawira, and Zandie Andika.

Lazizi follows sugar mogul Mark Mbotela (Mwaniki Mageria), whose ruthless ambition drives him to run for Governor, not for power, but for protection.

When ghosts from his past resurface, his carefully constructed world begins to crumble, threatening to expose dangerous affairs, buried secrets, and fierce family rivalries.

Producer Reuben Odanga revealed that the lush landscapes of Muhoroni inspired the series. “I wanted to tell a story from that region, something we haven’t done before,” he said.

“We have fused a strong telenovela aspect, anchored in realism, with dramatic storytelling. We are also infusing Swahili, English, and Luo to make it relatable to the local audience.”

Margaret Mathore, Channel Head of Maisha Magic Plus, expressed excitement about the new show: “We are excited to continue showcasing compelling local stories. Just like Selina, we are confident Lazizi will captivate viewers and affirm the strength of homegrown productions.”

The ensemble cast features complex characters, including Wilbroda as Amina, Mark’s troubled ex; Hellen Keli as his controlling wife, Bridget; and Isaac Okoyo as Shaffie, his free-spirited son yearning for acceptance.

Lazizi premieres Monday, 6 October at 8:00 PM on Maisha Magic Plus (DStv Channel 163 / GOtv Channel 3), airing weeknights.
