Maisha Magic Plus is excited to announce the premiere of its newest comedy series, Sumbua Sacco, on Friday, February 7th. Set against the vibrant backdrop of the Lumumba Estate, Sumbua Sacco follows the adventures of Awinja and Osoro, played by the dynamic duo Jackie Vike (Click Click Bang) and Cyprian Osoro (4 Better 4 Worse).

Their journey quickly turns hilarious and chaotic as they confront the gritty realities of Nairobi’s matatu culture. Awinja and Osoro face unruly passengers, confront matatu cartels, navigate shady authorities, and deal with mounting debts, all while caught in a whirlwind of challenges.

Their resilience, boldness, and comedic misadventures vividly showcase the hustle and bustle of daily life in the vibrant matatu industry, providing a unique perspective on Nairobi’s matatu culture.

Produced by A-Wish Productions, the creative minds behind the viral YouTube series Disco Matanga, the show features talented actors including Humphery Maina (from Lies that Bind), Jimmy Ouma (from Haki Mwitu), Kauthar Kang’ethe (from Volume), and the twins Nelly & Jane Wanjiku (from Zora). The concept originated from an online skit featuring Awinja and Osoro.

In a skit set in a matatu, Awinja takes on the role of a tout, hilariously responding to a passenger’s troubles. Initially, the team considered creating a limited online series, but the rich culture surrounding matatus inspired them to restructure it for television. Now, they are prepared to deliver a story that is both relatable and entertaining.

“Honestly, we just want people to have fun, enjoy the ride, and laugh at our characters’ problems and triumphs without overthinking. It’s all about decompressing and taking a breather from life’s daily grind,” says producer Lawrence Murage. Margaret Mathore, Channel Head of Maisha Magic Plus, adds, “As a longtime fan of Awinja and Osoro, it is a dream come true to bring their talent to Maisha Magic.”

“Their unique brand of humor strongly connects with our audiences, and we are excited to provide them a platform to reach an even broader audience through Sumbua Sacco. We are confident that this show will become a significant success and reinforce MultiChoice’s dedication to presenting the finest local entertainment. Tune in on February 7th at 7:30 PM for new episodes every Friday, exclusively on Maisha Magic Plus (DStv channel 163/GOtv channel 3), and join Awinja and Osoro as they navigate the bumpy roads of the matatu world.”

DStv and GOtv customers can also now take advantage of the newly launched Step-Up promotion running until March 31st. Customers who upgrade their subscription packages will get an automatic boost to the next level.
