On Thursday, Salim Mvurya, the Cabinet Secretary for Youth, Creative Economy and Sport, said that the 60,000-seater Talanta Sports City Stadium, which is currently under construction, is expected to be completed in December this year.
During his first visit to the site since taking office earlier this year, Mvurya expressed satisfaction with the progress made by the Chinese contractor, China Road and Bridge Corporation, known for other significant projects such as the Standard-Gauge Railway. Currently, construction is focused on the third deck, where the terraces are being installed.
Speaking after the inspection, Mvurya said, “From the briefing and from what I have seen the stadium will be ready in December. I am happy with the progress and also with other stadiums Nyayo and Kasarani. There is a lot of work going on in all departments like the terraces and the VIP stand, so it is progressing well and will be ready in time.”

“Many football fans in the country are keenly following the progress of this facility because Kenya alongside Tanzania and Uganda will be hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, as their minister, I assure them it will be ready and they will enjoy the game football,” noted Mvurya.
Located on 45.64 hectares along Nairobi’s Ngong Road, the Talanta Sports City Stadium will feature an outdoor training field, a standard athletic track, and a dedicated rugby training ground.

CS Mvurya also shared the latest information regarding the readiness of Nyayo and Kasarani stadiums, which are scheduled to jointly host the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) in August 2025.
“They have already fixed the lights. The field has regenerated very well, including the grass and other pending works. Great progress has been made, and I’m optimistic about the venue’s readiness,” said the CS.
