A bold proposal for the immediate formation of a Transitional Government has ignited fierce debate across Kenya, as citizens and leaders demand urgent action to address the country’s escalating political and economic crises.
In a hard-hitting statement, Prof. Fredrick O. Ogola declared that Kenya is “beyond dialogue,” slamming recent government deception including the “Big Con” surrounding Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat’s supposed resignation, as proof that the current administration cannot be trusted to lead meaningful reform.
Why a Transitional Government?
Prof. Ogola’s proposal outlines a 9-point rescue plan, arguing that Kenya needs an apolitical, patriotic team not politicians eyeing the 2027 election to restore constitutional order, governance, and economic stability.
The Transitional Government has laid out key demands aimed at revitalizing Kenya’s political and economic landscape.
Firstly, they call for the dissolution of Parliament and the conduction of fresh elections to restore integrity in governance.
They propose establishing a powerful Senate, based on the 2020 Bomas draft, to vet laws before presidential assent, while also defining Kenya’s national interests akin to those of China and the U.S. to protect sovereignty.
Additionally, they advocate for free education, healthcare, and ID services, highlighting that taxpayers already fund these services.
The government seeks to eliminate the political manipulation of NG-CDF bursaries by transferring funds management directly to the Ministry of Education.
Furthermore, they aim to separate the Treasury from the Ministry of Finance to curtail political interference in fiscal matters, review the number of counties through a referendum to reduce wasteful spending, and overhaul the punitive tax system.
They are also exploring the potential nationalization of mineral resources under a Sovereign Wealth Fund and propose slashing politicians’ salaries to better match GDP, ensuring that leaders feel the impact of rising living costs.
A Warning to Ruto’s Government
The proposal extends a “humanity consideration” to President William Ruto, offering him a chance to clear his name in court before 2027 or face legal consequences “no matter how long it takes.”
Opposition & Civil Society React
The call has drawn mixed reactions, with opposition leaders under pressure to back the push rather than wait for 2027 elections.
Meanwhile, civil society and religious groups are being urged to nominate credible leaders for the transitional team.
The Stakes Are High
With rising unemployment, unaffordable healthcare, and a collapsing economy, Prof. Ogola warns, “The sick, the hungry, and the jobless cannot wait till 2027.”
As Kenyans weigh in, the question remains, Will the country unite behind this radical reset or will political elites cling to power?
