Uzalendo Half Marathon 2025 Aims to Raise KSh 25 Million for Needy Students

By Eddah Waithaka

The Uzalendo School and the Eldama Ravine Education Fund (IREF) launched the 2025 Uzalendo Half Marathon with a bold mission: to raise KSh 25 million for an education endowment fund supporting bright but underprivileged students in rural Kenya.

During the launch event, Uzalendo School Chair Eng. John Tanui, Principal Secretary for the Ministry of ICT and Digital Economy, praised the growing sponsor network and highlighted the transformative power of education.

“Alumni Abuid Kiptoo, now a solar engineer, proves how mentorship and support can change lives. This marathon will expand that impact,” Tanui said.

Scheduled for July 19, 2025, in Koybatek, Eldama Ravine, the marathon carries the theme Running for Patriotism, Education, and Kenya’s Future.

Beyond fundraising, the event seeks to reignite national pride and drive grassroots development through education and youth empowerment.

Chief Cabinet Secretary for Gender and Culture, Hon. Hanna Wendort Cheptumo, presided over the launch and urged professionals to invest in their communities.

“This marathon is building a legacy. Education shapes Kenya’s future, and every contribution matters,” she stated. The initiative has attracted strong backing from corporate and government partners.

Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) donated KSh 2 million, with Roseline Gichuru, KCB Group Chief Marketing Manager, reaffirming their commitment to education.

Oher sponsors included Karen Roses (KSh 1 million), Karimu Connect (KSh 1 million), and Inua AI (KSh 500,000).

The Ministry of Sports pledged to cover prize money and future support, while the Communications Authority, Kenya Ports Authority, NSSF, Huawei, and Kenya Forest Service also pledged support.

Hon. Cheptumo called for transparency in fund management and commended Athletics Kenya and the Anti-Doping Agency for upholding international standards.

She thanked the Baringo County government for hosting the event, which will include a community outreach program at a local school for the deaf and blind.

Organizers hope the marathon will inspire long-term change, using sports to drive education, patriotism, and national transformation.
