BIC Boosts Kenya’s Economy with Local Manufacturing and Job Creation

BIC, a global leader in stationery, lighters, and shavers, has reinforced its dedication to Kenya’s economy and job creation. During a media tour at its Kasarani manufacturing plant in Nairobi, the company highlighted its local production capabilities, innovation, and sustainable growth efforts across East Africa.

The Kasarani facility serves as a key manufacturing hub, producing millions of essential products annually for both domestic and export markets.

This plant supports BIC’s Horizon strategy, launched in 2020, which focuses on expanding core product categories through localized operations and consumer-driven innovation.

Local Manufacturing as a Growth Engine

Paloma Lengema, General Manager of BIC East Africa, emphasized the company’s commitment to Kenya’s industrialization.

“Local manufacturing drives our operations. We take pride in strengthening regional value chains, creating jobs, and delivering sustainable products tailored to local needs. Our Nairobi plant isn’t just a production site it’s a strategic asset that fuels Kenya’s industrial growth and BIC’s global expansion,” she said.

Since establishing its Kenyan subsidiary in 2019, BIC East Africa has employed over 300 Kenyans directly while supporting hundreds more through its supply chain and distribution network.

The company partners with local suppliers, boosting trade and fostering a thriving ecosystem of businesses.

Expanding Product Range & Social Impact

Beyond stationery, BIC East Africa supplies lighters and shavers, meeting diverse consumer needs across the region.

The company also champions education through its global Writing the Future, Together initiative, aiming to improve learning conditions for 250 million students by 2025.

In Kenya, BIC’s Buy Me and BIC Will Donate a Pen campaign has distributed 1.5 million pens, reaching 150,000 students this year alone.

Additionally, its Express Myself with My BIC Pen program has empowered over 50,000 students through creative writing and self-expression.

With continued investment in local production, job creation, and education, BIC East Africa remains a key player in Kenya’s economic and social development.
