Britam has unveiled four professional golfers it will sponsor in the second leg of the Professional Golfers of Kenya (PGK) Equator Tour, which tees off tomorrow at Limuru Country Club.
The athletes Hesbon Kutwa (Royal Nairobi Golf Club), Kopan Timbe (Sigona Golf Club), Simon Ngige (Kiambu Golf Club), and Simon Njogu (Great Rift Valley Golf Resort) will represent Britam across the 12-tournament series and other PGK-sanctioned events.
The sponsorship, worth Ksh.3 million, covers registration fees, coaching, travel, branded gear, and performance incentives. Britam will also provide the players with a specialized golfers’ insurance package.
This initiative supports a national effort by the PGK, Kenya Golf Federation, and the Ministry of Sports to develop a competitive pipeline of pro golfers, with the ultimate goal of qualifying a Kenyan player for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
For the first time, the Equator Tour will also use a merit-based ranking system to select the top 20 professionals for the 2026 Kenya Open.

Building a Sustainable Golf Future
Tom Gitogo, Britam Group Plc’s Managing Director and CEO, said the sponsorship aligns with the company’s commitment to talent development.
“By investing in these athletes, we are backing individual careers and a national vision that merges sports excellence with social impact,” he stated.
The Equator Tour, Kenya’s first structured pro golf circuit, aims to create consistent earning opportunities for players while expanding access to underserved communities and golfers with disabilities.
Simon Njogu, one of the sponsored pros, welcomed the support. “This sponsorship boosts our confidence to compete at the highest level, including targeting Olympic qualification,” he said.
“Knowing corporates like Britam believe in us is a huge motivation.” Beyond competition, the tour integrates elite amateurs and juniors, fostering mentorship and securing the future of Kenyan golf.
