In a decisive move to end months of instability, Cricket Kenya’s council greenlit a major new tournament and resolved a bitter leadership fight during a special general meeting on Sunday.
The council threw its full support behind the upcoming AOS T20 tournament, officially mandating the board to begin preparations.
“The council has approved and blessed the tournament to proceed,” said council representative Michael Riwa after the meeting at the Utalii Hotel.
“We have given the board a clear mandate to prepare for the AOS T20.”In a key resolution, the council confirmed Manoj Patel as the body’s legitimate chairman, settling a dispute that had clouded the organization’s future.
The council also enacted immediate reforms, appointing Walter Trenk Mukinginyi as Interim CEO to oversee daily operations, protect federation assets, and initiate the hiring process for a permanent chief executive; it dissolved the non-performing Independent Elections Panel and mandated the formation of a new body within 30 days to supervise the Vice-Chairman’s election; it confirmed the expiry of previous board members’ terms and co-opted eleven new members from counties across Kenya; and it formed a disciplinary committee to investigate allegations against staff on compulsory leave, expecting a report with findings within 21 days.
“The council has taken decisive action to restore stability, integrity, and constitutional order in Cricket Kenya,” Riwa stated.
