By Eddah Waithaka

Huawei seized the spotlight at the TowerXchange Africa 2025 summit this week, championing intelligent energy solutions as the key to building Africa’s future-ready telecom networks.

The event, which co-located with ITW Africa and Datacloud Africa, gathered leading tower companies, mobile operators, and investors to chart the course for the continent’s connectivity infrastructure.

In a keynote address, Muhammad Shariq Ansari, Chief Technology Officer of Huawei Site Energy MEA, urged the industry to embrace AI-driven efficiency.

He argued that smarter operations will slash costs, boost performance, and speed up deployment critical factors for bridging the digital divide, especially in rural areas.

“Africa’s digital future depends on resilient networks powered by intelligent, sustainable energy solutions,” Ansari stated.

“By combining operational efficiency with AI-driven innovation, Huawei is helping operators reduce costs, improve performance, and connect more communities faster.”

The company highlighted its widespread use of high-quality lithium-ion batteries, which it says guarantee uninterrupted power while improving site safety and sustainability.

Ansari also unveiled L.I.G.H.T, a new Huawei framework designed to steer tower companies through a smart digital transformation and unlock new revenue streams.

Further solidifying its message, Huawei showcased a strategic collaboration with Vodacom Group.

Liren Naidoo, Executive Head of Group Access Networks at Vodacom, joined the session to present the co-developed “Slim and Helical Pile Tower.”

Naidoo explained that the innovative design, already piloted in Mozambique, significantly lowers the total cost of ownership and accelerates network rollout.

“Our partnership with Huawei is helping us reimagine infrastructure to make connectivity more accessible and affordable,” Naidoo said.

The joint presence of Huawei and Vodacom at the summit reinforced a shared commitment to powering Africa’s digital transformation with advanced, intelligent infrastructure designed for efficiency and sustainability.
