Five brilliant Kenyan university students have just returned from an immersive week in China as part of Huawei’s flagship Seeds for the Future 2025 program.
The initiative, held from July 21–25, 2025, gathered top young talent from across the globe for intensive ICT training, innovation workshops, and cultural exchange.
The Kenyan delegation featured notable representatives from prominent universities, including Shem Machii Ngunjiri from Dedan Kimathi University of Technology (DeKUT), Sophy Cherono Rop of the United States International University–Africa (USIU-A), Huldah Mwihaki Kaura from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT), Mungai Erick Gachuhi representing Moi University, and Samuel Ochor Ogeno of the University of Nairobi.
A Week of Cutting-Edge Tech and Global Networking
The students joined peers from Brazil, Namibia, Portugal, Côte d’Ivoire, and Madagascar in a packed schedule featuring: – **Hands-on ICT training** in **5G, AI, Cloud Computing, and Smart City solutions** – **Exclusive tours** of Huawei’s R&D centers, tech exhibition halls, and DJI’s drone manufacturing hub – **High-level discussions** on AI entrepreneurship and digital transformation
Kenyan Students Shine in Global Forum
During the closing ceremony, the Kenyan cohort received certificates of completion, marking their dedication and active participation.
Samuel Ochor Ogeno, one of the participants, delivered a moving speech, “A seed starts in the dark buried, unseen, but full of potential. With the right environment, it grows into something powerful. Huawei’s Seeds for the Future gave us the fertile ground to flourish.”
Huldah Mwihaki Kaura added, “Meeting global experts and students from different cultures opened my mind. Innovation isn’t just about tech, it’s about solving real-world problems.”
Huawei’s Commitment to Kenya’s Digital Future
Michael Kamau, Huawei’s ICT Academy Manager, emphasized the program’s impact, “These students represent Kenya’s next-gen tech leaders. Through Seeds for the Future, we’re equipping them with skills, exposure, and networks to drive Africa’s digital transformation.”
Since its launch in 2014, the program has nurtured dozens of Kenyan tech talents, many of whom now lead innovations in the country’s growing ICT sector.
The students now return with enhanced skills, global connections, and fresh inspiration to contribute to Kenya’s digital economy.
As Huawei continues to invest in youth empowerment, the Seeds for the Future program remains a key platform for bridging the digital divide.
