The Human Resource Management Professionals Examinations Board (HRMPEB) celebrated its 5th CHRP Certification Ceremony at the Bomas of Kenya, where it awarded certification to 708 new Certified Human Resource Professionals (CHRP). This event is a significant demonstration of HRMPEB’s dedication to enhancing HR standards in the country and underscores the increasing influence of certified HR professionals on Kenya’s workforce.
The guest of honor at the ceremony, Justin Muturi, the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service and Human Capital Development, praised the newly certified professionals for their commitment to enhancing Kenya’s workforce.
He remarked, “As certified HR professionals, you are more than just managers of personnel; you are guardians of organizational culture and advocates for employee well-being.” Muturi emphasized the government’s dedication to empowering HR professionals as vital contributors to Kenya’s socio-economic development.

During her address at the ceremony, Margaret Nguu, the Acting CEO of HRMPEB and a certified HR professional, highlighted the board’s accomplishments and the importance of this year’s certification, which features graduates trained under a newly revised curriculum.
Nguu acknowledged that navigating financial challenges and managing stakeholder interests has been difficult at times, but she underscored the board’s perseverance and determination.
“Today, we stand stronger because of the hurdles we have overcome, and the caliber of our graduates reflects our dedication to quality,” she remarked.
“Today, we honor not only our graduates’ achievements but also the resilience of our institution and the unwavering support from our partners, stakeholders, and dedicated team,” Nguu noted.
This group includes 159 men and 549 women, reflecting the diverse talents that will shape the future of HR in Kenya.
Nguu reflected on HRMPEB’s journey from its modest origins to its current status as a vibrant organization, emphasizing important digital innovations and the opening of its new headquarters at Mwalimu Towers.
“We have reached important milestones, crafting strategic plans, updating our curriculum, improving staff recruitment, and moving to a more spacious facility,” she remarked.
Each of these accomplishments, she emphasized, has reinforced HRMPEB’s position as a leader in HR certification.

The ceremony was a significant personal milestone for Nguu, as it marked her last certification event in her role as Acting CEO. Looking back on her time, she said, “Leading HRMPEB has been incredibly fulfilling. Witnessing the enthusiasm and commitment of each graduate inspires me about the future of HR in Kenya.” She urged the graduates to uphold a legacy of integrity, passion, and professionalism as they move forward.
The event recognized the strategic collaborations between HRMPEB, the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM), and Ministry of Public Service, which have played a crucial role in the board’s development Nguu pointed out the Ministry’s financial supportholding high standards, stating, “Our achievements are a direct result of the steadfast support from our partners and the commitment of our team.”
HRMPEB has recently made significant progress, including the introduction of a new strategic plan, the launch of a student portal designed for more efficient services, and the accreditation of over 50 institutions offering CHRP training.
To enhance flexibility for candidates, the board will implement three examination windows annually beginning in 2025, allowing aspiring HR professionals more chances to achieve certification.
The CHRP certification, acknowledged by IHRM and officially published in the Kenya Gazette, symbolizes a high standard of HR expertise.
This credential facilitates career growth across various industries where human resource roles play a crucial part. Additionally, the recent accreditation from the Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA) has enhanced the global reputation of the CHRP certification, paving the way for international career opportunities for HR professionals in Kenya.
In her closing remarks, Nguu reiterated HRMPEB’s dedication to aligning with Kenya’s Vision 2030 and the G4 agenda. She expressed her optimism about the graduates’ ability to make a positive impact in their respective fields, stating, “HRMPEB is in capable hands, and I firmly believe that our brightest days are still to come.”
