Kalonzo Seeks Support for Kamba inclusion in GEMA Alliance

The leader of the Wiper Party, Kalonzo Musyoka, has embarked on a strategic campaign aimed at winning over the Mount Kenya region.

Kalonzo has made a concerted effort to unite the Kikuyu and Akamba communities. This move goes beyond mere political manoeuvring, as Kalonzo aims to foster a society characterised by unity and peace, bridging historical divisions that have hindered progress.

On Thursday, Kalonzo met with the Kikuyu Council of Elders at their Ruaka offices where he stressed the importance of embracing inclusivity within the GEMA (Gikuyu, Embu, Meru, Akamba) framework.

His main aim was to bridge the historical divide between the Kikuyu and Kamba communities, emphasising that under his leadership there would be no distinction between these communities.

Addressing the Kikuyu elders, Kalonzo urged them to embrace his call for unity, stressing the importance of standing together in these uncertain political times.

He assured them of his commitment to their cause. He promised continued communication and cooperation with community leaders throughout the region.

Echoing Kalonzo’s sentiments, the National Chairman of the Kikuyu Council, Wachira Kiago, praised his efforts to promote unity and reconciliation. Kiago stressed the importance of the ongoing discussions in fostering growth and cooperation in the region.

Kathiani MP Robert Mbui emphasised that the meeting should not be seen solely through a political lens, but rather as a means to promote unity and peace among all communities in Mount Kenya.

Matungulu Member of Parliament Stephen Mule reiterated the Kamba community’s willingness to support unity efforts. Former women’s representative Rachel Shebesh praised Kalonzo for his continued support of the community and emphasised their willingness to work with and support him in his endeavours.

But despite Kalonzo’s efforts, obstacles are looming within his political faction in Azimio. Narc Kenya leader Martha Karua has cast doubt on Kalonzo’s suitability as a presidential candidate, advising him to focus on proving his mettle to the electorate.
