Jubilee Party Unleashes Grassroots Revamp with Nationwide Meetings

By Eddah Waithaka

The Jubilee Party has kicked off a series of branch meetings aimed at strengthening its grassroots structures and expanding its presence across the country. The first meeting, held earlier this week, marked the beginning of a renewed push to bolster party infrastructure, recruit new members, and open offices in all 24 counties.

Speaking after the meeting, the party’s Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni emphasized the importance of grassroots recruitment and maintaining robust party structures. “This is the first meeting of a section of the branches, and we’ll have another one soon. We want to manage our branches in this format to ensure we continue doing grassroots recruitment effectively,” Kioni stated.

The Secretary General also confirmed its commitment to the Azimio Coalition, reaffirming its membership and alignment with the coalition’s goals. “We are still members of the Azimio Coalition, and we have many upcoming activities,” he added.

In the coming days, Jubilee plans to open new party offices and hold activities in several regions, including Kajiado, Meru, and Nyeri. These efforts are part of the party’s strategy to catch up after delays caused by prolonged court battles, which have now been resolved.

Kioni also highlighted the party’s growing membership, which now stands at over 7.1 million registered members. “The number has continued to grow, and we challenge anyone to check with the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) to confirm if there is a larger party than Jubilee,” he noted.

The party acknowledged the challenges of building such a vast membership base, noting that it requires significant resources, time, and loyalty from members. “It doesn’t take a day or two to register members. This is work that has been ongoing for over 10 years,” Kioni explained.

During the meeting, party leaders also addressed pressing national issues, including the high cost of living, challenges in the health and education sectors, and security concerns.

They criticized current government policies, particularly the inadequate funding for schools, where capitation has dropped to KSh 3,000 per student, far below the expected KSh 12,000. On security, the party called for uniform policies in border areas, emphasizing the need to balance ease of access to national identification documents with robust vetting processes to prevent potential electoral manipulation.

The meeting also touched on Kenya’s foreign policy, with officials questioning the country’s role in the failure of Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union Commission (AUC) chairmanship. They criticized the government for hosting groups allegedly seeking to overthrow neighboring governments, suggesting that such actions may have undermined Kenya’s international standing.

Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, Jubilee leaders expressed confidence in the party’s ability to organize and present a strong presidential candidate. While no names were officially endorsed, some members voiced support for former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i as a potential candidate.

The Secretary General further reiterated its position as the majority party in the National Assembly, following a recent Constitutional Court ruling that affirmed Azimio’s majority status. Jubilee leaders called for respect of the coalition agreement in the allocation of parliamentary committee seats and other opportunities.
