Cabinet Secretary for Youth Affairs, Creative Economy, and Sports, Hon. Salim Mvurya, EGH, today assured the nation that Kenya remains on track to co-host the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) alongside Uganda and Tanzania.
Speaking at Talanta Plaza after a high-level inspection tour by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Mvurya dismissed rumors that Kenya risks losing hosting rights, stating that the government has already committed financial and human resources to ensure a successful tournament.
A CAF delegation, led by Secretary-General Veron Mosengo-Omba, visited key stadiums, including Kasarani, Nyayo, Police Sacco, Ulinzi, and Kigiri, to assess readiness.
While acknowledging progress, the team highlighted areas requiring improvement, such as Video Assistant Referee (VAR) installation and hospitality standards.

“If the current momentum continues, CHAN will happen here in August,” he said.

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President assured that the national team is undergoing rigorous training, with June friendlies planned abroad to avoid straining local pitches before CHAN.
CS Mvurya reiterated that CHAN serves as a precursor to Kenya’s co-hosting of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), urging public support.
“We are confident in delivering a world-class tournament,” he declared.
