On Wednesday, the Wiper Democratic Party issued a statement to media expressing concern about the current regime’s lack of understanding of Gen Z’s message of action now.

The opposition party appealed to President Ruto to prioritize addressing the concerns of Generation Z by resolving the issues raised in the recent protests, rather than focusing on pushing for a meeting with their so-called representatives.

“In terms of the Gen Z revolution, it appears that Ruto lacks an understanding of public sentiment. Generation Z does not wish to engage in dialogue. They want action, and Wiper agrees,” said the party in a statement after a meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC).

In addition, the party said the challenges currently plaguing the country were beyond dialogue and required only implementation.

The statement also cited the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO), which was formed last year to address issues surrounding the 2023 Finance Bill, underlining that although the committee recommended certain outcomes, the whole process was inconsequential to the needs of Kenyans at the time.

Similarly, Wiper emphasized that the key to addressing the concerns of Generation Z is to meet their demands, such as ensuring the placement of medical interns, dissolving parliament and removing corrupt government officials from their positions.

“The current situation in Kenya could have been avoided if the regime had addressed the rising cost of living and implemented the findings of the National Dialogue Committee. You don’t need dialogue. Dialogue is not needed to assess public debt because the Auditor General’s Office has the same role,” the statement said.

“The attempt to hijack the constitution by forming a task force on the issue is equally telling. You don’t need dialogue to send in medical interns or fire corrupt government officials.

Wiper also noted, “The dialogue that Gen Z and Kenyans are demanding is that Parliament be dissolved, snap elections be called and Ruto go home. And the Wiper Democratic Movement agrees.”

The party also pledged its support to the Gen movement and encouraged them to engage with Kalonzo on social media platforms for constructive dialogue.

“We will continue to engage with our youth on all platforms available. We ask our young Wiper Democrats to open up the social media spaces and invite the party leadership including the party leader to them. We want you to take the lead in shaping the conversation here and on the national platform,” said the party.

Wiper’s comments come after President Ruto and Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leader Raila Odinga pushed for talks with the Gen Zs, a move that sparked public outrage and condemnation.

The party also demands the resignation of IG Koome and Nairobi Regional Commander Adamson Bungei. They want them to take responsibility for the deaths, injuries, kidnappings and abductions of scores of young people, some of whom are still unaccounted for.

The Wiper Democratic Movement Party has taken a firm stance against the behaviour and statements associated with its deputy leader, Farah Maalim, underlining its commitment to upholding integrity, respect and the core values that define its identity.

The decision of the National Executive Council (NEC) to immediately remove the Honourable Farah Maalim from all parliamentary committees, including the prestigious Speaker’s Panel, is a decisive step.
