The event merged sport, mentorship, and networking, drawing senior professionals, academics, and young engineers to back the cause.

Breaking Financial Barriers

IEK President Eng. Shammah Kiteme emphasized the initiative’s goal, removing cost hurdles for students.

“About 2,500 students enroll in engineering programs yearly across 17 universities. We want every one of them to join IEK without financial strain,” he said.

Early membership, he noted, opens doors to mentorship and career growth through IEK’s graduate and corporate tiers.

From Networking to Mentorship

Participant Eng. Derek Okova shared how the event evolved beyond networking. “Students often struggle with fees. This tournament directly funds their IEK access,” he said, thanking sponsors like Galana Energies, Kenya Pipeline, and Davis & Shirtliff for backing the initiative. Plans are underway to make the golf day an annual fixture, steadily expanding support for young engineers.

Ruiru Club Celebrates Dual Impact

Ruiru Sports Club Captain Justus Mathenge applauded IEK’s blend of sport and purpose. “This isn’t just golf, it’s engineers uniting to shape the profession’s future while mentoring newcomers. We’re proud to host such a transformative event,” he said.

Young Engineers Rally Behind the Cause

For Eng. Titus Koech, an electrical engineer, the day held personal significance. “IEK guided my career. Supporting students ensures they enter the field stronger and someday lead it,” he said.

With the tournament’s success, IEK aims to cement the golf day as a yearly tradition, fostering mentorship and solidarity across generations, one swing at a time.
