Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has announced that the newly introduced university funding model is a disaster, saying it is riddled with corruption.

The Wiper party leader expressed his concerns about the new university funding model while addressing a large crowd at the Githurai roundabout in Nairobi on Sunday, August 25, 2024. He had earlier attended a Sunday service at Kimbo PEFA Church in Githurai.

Kalonzo mentioned that he intends to organize Kenyans from across the nation to oppose the higher education funding model.

“We will mobilize this country to say No! to this corrupt higher education funding model,” said Kalonzo.

“We have the experience, the determination and the prayers to stand in the gap and refuse to allow this country to go back into dictatorship,” he continued.

Kalonzo went on to say that should he become president, he will guarantee free education for secondary schools and universities.

His comments came at a time when parents, students and various stakeholders in the education sector, including university lecturers, have expressed concerns about the transparency and inclusiveness of the new system.

He reminded the audience that President Mwai Kibaki’s government launched the successful Free Primary Education from day one, which has contributed to the emergence of Generation Z, who have significantly transformed the nation.

Simultaneously, Kalonzo raised concerns about the practice of reappoint dismissed ministers to positions within the Executive Office of the Presidency, especially after Generation Z had effectively removed them from power.
