Majid Al Futtaim, the exclusive operator of Carrefour in Kenya, has opened its 36th hypermarket in the country and its sixth outlet outside Nairobi with a new store in the coastal town of Kilifi.
The 1,500-square-metre retail space brings a wide selection of groceries, home appliances, electronics, and fresh food to the region, offering coastal residents the same quality and affordability that urban shoppers have long enjoyed.

The expansion into Kilifi reflects a deliberate strategy of inclusivity, according to the retailer. By moving beyond the capital, Carrefour Kenya aims to bridge the gap between communities and modern shopping experiences, bringing high-quality products at competitive prices closer to more Kenyans.
“We are not just opening stores; we are building connections,” a company spokesperson said. “Moving into regions like Kilifi is about creating a more inclusive, nationwide economy where every community has access to quality products and affordable prices.”

Each new store serves as a dynamic ecosystem, the company explains, connecting local farmers and manufacturers to larger markets. These outlets create vital employment opportunities, strengthen supply chains, and ensure communities have reliable access to everyday essentials.
Majid Al Futtaim now operates 30 Carrefour stores in Nairobi and six outlets across the rest of the country, with footprints spanning from urban centres to emerging regional hubs.
The Kilifi opening marks the latest milestone in the retailer’s steady nationwide expansion, reinforcing its commitment to serving customers beyond the capital and contributing to local economic growth along the Kenyan coast.
