GS1 Launches Construction of its Regional Offices at Konza Technopolis

GS1, a worldwide leader in providing barcodes and RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) solutions for traceability and data management, has officially launched the construction of its regional offices at Konza Technopolis. This development, which spans 1.1 acres, signifies the organization’s commitment to establishing itself as the premier center for traceability and data management in Kenya and the surrounding region.


“We are thrilled to see GS1 breaking ground, this is a bold step towards securing their future by establishing the regional office here in Konza Technopolis. Our investors enjoy a seamless set up process with the ready infrastructure – electricity, water, roads, internet etc.  We are now in the next stage where investors can construct their projects and pursue their organizational goals in the smart city,” Konza Technopolis CEO John Paul Okwiri said. 

The new building, a prefabricated design featuring a distinctive Global Location Number (GLN) identifier, showcases GS1’s dedication to accuracy and innovation. It has achieved the prestigious Green Edge Building Certification, highlighting its commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly construction methods.

Construction is anticipated to be finished by the end of 2025, with operations slated to commence that same year. Initially, the facility will employ 23 staff members, with plans to add another 25, ultimately increasing the workforce to 48.

“We are excited to break the ground to start the construction of our regional offices and our selection of Konza Technopolis was based on the fact that is a smart city offering smart technological services for a technology-based company like ours,” GS1 CEO and Chairman, Peter Otieno said.

Konza Technopolis has been selected as the perfect site for this initiative, reflecting its reputation as a smart city that leverages technology and data-driven approaches. The city’s advanced infrastructure and emphasis on innovation closely match GS1’s goal of establishing a center that enhances data management and traceability on a regional level.

With this project, GS1 intends to set a new standard for operational excellence while contributing to the technological landscape of Konza. As the organization expands, its regional headquarters will become an essential resource for industries in search of innovative solutions in supply chain management and data utilization.

This development represents a significant advancement for GS1, reinforcing its position as a leader in the industry and highlighting its commitment to sustainable growth and innovation.
