The Nairobi Hospital has secured two prestigious international certifications, reaffirming its position as a leader in sustainable and safe healthcare delivery in Kenya.
The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) awarded the hospital the ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System certification following a successful sixth-cycle recertification, alongside the inaugural ISO 45001:2018 certification for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.
“The ISO 45001 certification affirms that you deliberately and proactively safeguard your staff’s wellbeing,” said Esther Ngari, Managing Director of KEBS, during the certification ceremony.
“By sustaining ISO 14001 through six certification cycles, you demonstrate that environmental stewardship is not episodic, it is embedded.”
The twin certifications recognize the hospital’s sustained implementation of sustainable healthcare approaches that strengthen institutional safety, environmental responsibility, and operational excellence.
Quality as a Continuous Journey
Felix Osano, Chief Executive Officer of The Nairobi Hospital, emphasized that quality improvement never stops.
“Environmental sustainability and safety benchmarks are crucial aspects in today’s dynamic healthcare environment,” Osano stated after receiving the certificates from KEBS.
“Achieving certification in environmental and occupational health and safety management keeps us increasingly aware of the part we must play in creating a safe environment for current and future generations.”
The hospital maintains additional international standards including ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System and ISO 22000:2018 Food Safety Management System.
Its laboratory also holds ISO 15189:2022 accreditation, and the facility continues pursuing Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA).
KEBS Creates Dedicated Support Channel
To support the hospital’s ongoing improvement efforts, KEBS has established a special green channel for The Nairobi Hospital.
“This partnership and dedication to improvement has prompted KEBS to create a dedicated green channel ensuring faster turnaround times and priority service delivery for your calibration and technical support needs,” Ms. Ngari added.

Rigorous Certification Process
The certifications followed a comprehensive assessment process involving leadership commitment, staff training, systems gap analysis, policy development, internal audits, management reviews, and two-stage external audits conducted by KEBS in September and October 2025.
Setting New Healthcare Benchmarks
The new certifications strengthen The Nairobi Hospital’s position as a leading healthcare institution committed to enhancing patient safety and quality of care, promoting environmental sustainability in healthcare delivery, improving operational efficiency and patient-centered service, strengthening occupational health through proactive risk management, and supporting safe, high-quality nutrition through strengthened food safety systems.
As The Nairobi Hospital celebrates these achievements, it reinforces its core belief that quality represents not a destination but a continuous journey toward excellence in healthcare delivery across Kenya and beyond.
