In a groundbreaking effort to combat the devastating effects of waterborne diseases in flood-affected communities in Kenya, 4Life Solutions SEZ (4LS) has partnered with Amref Health Africa, the continent’s largest health NGO. The collaboration will focus on providing safe drinking water to the Mai Mahiu and Tana River communities to prevent the spread of waterborne diseases, including cholera outbreak.
“We stand with the flood victims and recognise their plight at this difficult time,” said Dr Benjamin K Nyilitya, Chief Science Officer and Emergency Response Champion at 4Life Solutions SEZ.
“Access to safe, clean drinking water and sanitation is a human right and essential for survival. We look forward to working with Amref to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the Mai Mahiu and Tana River communities.”
AMREF Health Africa in Kenya and 4LS have partnered to provide safe drinking water to the communities of Mahiu and Tana River. As part of this collaboration, 4LS has donated 1,000 SaWa bags to AMREF Health Africa in Kenya, valued at Kenyan shillings 750,000, which are equipped with ODIS technology to eliminate bacteria, protozoa and viruses, ensuring that the water is safe to drink.

“It’s always better to prevent diseases than to wait for them to occur and then treat them. With floods and contaminated water, cases of waterborne diseases will be reported. To avoid the spread of these diseases, we need innovative solutions to tackle health crises. That’s why we’ve partnered with @SaWa4Life to provide sustainable water solutions to flood-affected communities. The #SaWaBags can be used to treat contaminated water for domestic consumption using Sun UV rays. This will help kill bacteria and provide clean drinking water to those in need,” said Dr. Ndirangu Wanjuki, the Country Director of Amref Health Africa, Kenya in his X page platform.
This sustainable, solar-powered solution can serve a household for up to 1 year. It is important to note that many people die each year from waterborne
diseases every year, underlining the urgency of this partnership
In addition to providing donations, 4Life Solutions will also provide training and on-the-ground support to help communities manage water sources. The partnership will empower individuals with skills that will last beyond the current crisis.
“We are deeply grateful to 4Life Solutions SEZ for their generous donation of SaWa bags to the Mai Mahiu and Tana River communities. This partnership addresses the urgent need for clean water during the ongoing flood crisis and empowers our communities with sustainable solutions to prevent water-borne diseases.”

“We are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside Amref in this important endeavour,” added Dr Benjamin.
“Together, we can not only improve access to safe drinking water, but also improve the health and health and well-being of the flood-affected communities.”
“This gesture is not just about providing immediate relief; it is about laying the foundation for improved health in these communities. This partnership is a testament to the power of working together to build a healthier future for all,” said Dr Meshack Ndirangu, Amref Health Africa Country Director in Kenya.”
