Issa Kuno, a businessman and former officer of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF), has voiced strong objections against Nairobi City County officials’ attempts to stop the development of an area in Green Park, located within Uhuru Park.

Kuno presented evidence of bank transactions and leases made while the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) was in charge of the city, claiming that he had acquired the land legally.

In a heated argument with the city council, Kuno insisted that he adhered to all necessary legal protocols and maintained transparency in his transactions.

“I have followed the law. I purchased the land legally and possess court rulings that support my assertions. I have not committed any wrongdoing,” Kuno said.

Kuno also presented receipts for payments that he claimed were made during the previous administration, along with a court ruling that confirmed his entitlement to develop the area.

However, city officials remained doubtful and sought additional clarification from Kuno about the project’s approval.

The disagreement centers on whether the former administration adhered to the correct protocols, as well as whether the current City County government has the power to rescind the development plans. Kuno remains firm in his stance, asserting, “If you don’t respond, this is the law. This is a court ruling. I have complied with the process.”

Although the officials confirmed that they had received his documentation, they stressed the importance of clarifying the approvals from the appropriate departments and raised concerns about whether the county government had given the necessary consent.

The controversy revolves around the development of Green Park, a site of considerable public interest that has ignited a broader discussion about urban planning and land use in Nairobi.

Kuno’s situation is currently in the hands of the judiciary, with both sides awaiting a court ruling to determine the legality of the ongoing development efforts.
