Safaricom Announces KES 46.5 Million Sponsorship for 2025 WRC Safari Rally as Official Technology Partner

Safaricom has today unveiled a KES 46.5 million sponsorship for the 2025 World Rally Championship (WRC) Safari Rally, solidifying its role as the event’s official technology partner.

The rally, set to take place from Thursday, 20th, to Sunday, 23rd March, in Naivasha, will benefit from Safaricom’s cutting-edge network solutions to ensure seamless connectivity for fans, teams, and officials.

As part of the sponsorship, Safaricom will deploy six (6) Cell on Wheels (C.O.W.s) and optimize 5G connectivity in key areas, including Kedong, Elementaita, Soysambu, Morendat, and Hell’s Gate.

These installations will enhance network capacity along critical routes and viewing zones, ensuring uninterrupted communication and live streaming.

Safaricom will also establish two fully equipped world-class media centers at the Service Park and Hell’s Gate, providing journalists with the tools to cover the event efficiently.

Additionally, the telco will supply bulk data bundles to media houses, enabling seamless reporting even outside the media centers.

Dr. Peter Ndegwa, Safaricom CEO, emphasized the company’s commitment to the rally and the local community. “This marks the fifth year of our support for the WRC Safari Rally since its return to Kenya in 2020. This year, we are stepping up as the technology partner to deliver fast, reliable connectivity for global streaming. Beyond the rally, we are setting up a medical camp in Naivasha to provide essential health services, ensuring the local community also benefits from this global event,” he said.

Safaricom will further enhance safety measures by installing telematic gadgets and a Smart Vehicle Tracking System in safety caravan vehicles, including ambulances.

This initiative aims to improve safety management and response times for spectators and rally teams. Charles Gacheru, WRC Safari Rally CEO, expressed gratitude for Safaricom’s continued support.

“Preparations are in top gear for the 2025 WRC Safari Rally. Safaricom’s partnership ensures we stay connected with a robust network during this iconic event. I urge fans to turn out in large numbers to cheer on our homegrown heroes and international stars as they tackle the world’s toughest rally stages,” he said.

The 2025 WRC Safari Rally has attracted 47 entries, with championship leader Elfyn Evans leading Toyota GAZOO Racing’s charge. Hyundai Motorsport and M-Sport Ford are also fielding strong teams, setting the stage for a thrilling competition.

Kenyan drivers Karan Patel, Carl Tundo, Hamza Anwar, and Jeremiah Wahome will proudly represent the host nation. Safaricom’s sponsorship underscores its dedication to sports development in Kenya, aligning with its mission to support community passion points.
