Karua Calls out Government for Working with Corruption Cartels

By Eddah Waithaka

Narc-Kenya party leader Martha Karua on Tuesday accused the government of collaborating with “corruption cartels” that are manipulating the state for their own benefit. In a press conference held at the party’s headquarters in Nairobi, Karua expressed her belief that the government led by President William Ruto has failed its people and put the country in a precarious state of governance.

Karua pointed out that corruption has become a pervasive issue within the government, significantly undermining public trust. She also remarked that the state has manipulated the Judiciary to shield those in positions of power.

“We must uproot this cancer with determination and vigour. It demands not only robust legal frameworks but a cultural shift, a collective repudiation of graft in all its forms,” Karua noted.

“This cannot be done in an administration that makes every effort to undermine the justice system by orchestrating withdrawal of economic crimes cases against the ruling elite and their cronies,” she continued.

The former Member of Parliament raised concerns about the blatant disregard for Kenyan law, in particular why numerous cases of land grabbing have been overlooked and ignored.

In addition, she claimed that despite growing public outrage over the increasing number of abductions in the country, little or no action has been taken to bring the alleged suspects – often reported to be police officers – to justice.

“Cases of land grabbing are also on the rise with both private and public land being targeted. The state appears to be under the control and capture of corruption cartels,” she highlighted.

Karua emphasized that the demand for good governance has reached a critical point, and it is imperative that those responsible for reckless and poor leadership are held accountable.
