Nairobi Hospital Launches Home Blood Collection Service to Boost Healthcare Access

By Eddah Waithaka

Nairobi Hospital today launched its ‘Home Blood Collection Service’, bringing laboratory testing directly to patients’ homes or offices.

The new service allows trained phlebotomists to collect blood and body fluid samples for analysis, eliminating the need for hospital visits.

The hospital designed the service for acute and chronically ill patients, individuals with disabilities, pregnant women, and children who face mobility challenges.

It also caters to busy professionals, including CEOs, entrepreneurs, and corporate workers, who struggle to spare time for hospital appointments.

Felix Osano, CEO of Nairobi Hospital, emphasized the hospital’s commitment to patient-centered innovation.

“In today’s fast-paced economy, this service saves valuable time by allowing patients to receive care at their workplaces. It also ensures vulnerable individuals access healthcare without inconvenience,” Osano said.

How the Service Works

Patients can request the service through a dedicated phone line or email, a licensed laboratory specialist will collect samples at their preferred location, a support team will help with insurance approvals, and they will receive results via password-protected email or printed copies for an additional fee.

Dr. Rahul Zode, Chief Pathologist, assured patients of confidentiality and accuracy, noting that the service costs KES 200 per visit, subject to insurance approval.

Expansion Plans

Dr. Samuel Wadede, Director of Medical Services, confirmed that the hospital will initially offer the service weekdays in Nairobi, with plans to expand to weekends and nationwide.

“We are using advanced digital systems to deliver secure, real-time results to doctors and patients. This is just the beginning—we aim to make healthcare more accessible to all Kenyans,” said Dr. Wadede.

The initiative aligns with global trends in telemedicine and home-based healthcare, driven by technology and rising demand for convenience.

Nairobi Hospital continues to invest in cutting-edge facilities, reinforcing its position as a leader in medical excellence in East Africa.
