Kenyan actress Amalie Chopetta has won the 2025 Hermes Award in Entertainment Localisation Excellence for her standout Kiswahili dubbing performance in Showmax’s hit original series Outlaws.

The award recognizes her exceptional work in adapting the show from its original Sesotho and isiZulu dialogue. In a highly competitive category, Amalie defeated global heavyweights like The Gentleman and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.
Fellow Kenyans Anthony Kihuria (Outlaws) and Eunice Chacha (Adulting) also earned nominations, marking a historic moment for East African talent in international entertainment.
Currently starring in The Chocolate Empire*, Amalie expressed her excitement: “It is an incredible honour to receive global recognition for work that celebrates our languages and stories. I’m deeply grateful to Showmax for championing localization and trusting me with this powerful project. This win isn’t just mine—it’s for every Kenyan artist who tells our stories with pride, passion, and authenticity. We are the moment.”

Set in the rugged borderlands between Lesotho and KwaZulu-Natal, ‘Outlaws’ follows the violent feud between the cattle-farming Biyela clan (Zulu) and the cattle-raiding Ts’eoles (Basotho).
The series dominated last year’s South African Film and Television Awards, winning seven trophies, including Best Telenovela.
M-Net’s Physical Productions team, alongside partners TransPerfect, also secured a nomination in the Best Overall Dubbing for a Series category.
Now in its third year, the Hermes Awards founded by the Entertainment Globalisation Association celebrate excellence in global storytelling, honoring those who demonstrate exceptional skill in bridging cultures through localization.
Amalie’s win cements East Africa’s rising influence in the global entertainment industry.
