BIC and CFK Africa Empower 150,000 Kenyan Students Through Pen Donation Initiative

By Eddah Waithaka

BIC, a global leader in stationery, lighters, and shavers, has successfully wrapped up the fifth edition of its “Buy Me and BIC Will Donate a Pen” campaign in Kenya. Partnering with CFK Africa, the initiative supports underprivileged students by donating a pen for every pen sold, helping bridge the resource gap in classrooms.

This year, the program reached 150,000 students across Nairobi, Machakos, Kiambu, and Kajiado counties.

Paloma Lengema, General Manager of BIC East Africa, emphasized the company’s dedication to education: “We take pride in running this initiative for the fifth consecutive year in Kenya. It reflects our commitment to equipping students with essential tools for academic success. The growing impact on Kenyan learners motivates us to keep driving change in the communities we serve.”

Jeffrey Okoro, Executive Director at CFK Africa, highlighted the power of simple resources: “A pen may seem small, but it plays a crucial role in a child’s education. Our partnership with BIC ensures thousands of students gain access to basic writing tools, removing barriers to learning and boosting classroom participation.”

Madam Rhoda, Headteacher at Arap Moi Primary School, expressed gratitude: “We appreciate BIC and CFK Africa for prioritizing students’ needs. Providing writing materials builds confidence and allows children to focus on learning without worrying about supplies.”

As part of its “Writing the Future Together” sustainability program, BIC aims to enhance learning conditions for 250 million students by 2025. So far, the company has impacted over 200 million students worldwide.

Beyond this campaign, BIC Kenya drives education through initiatives like “Express Myself with My BIC Pen”, which has benefited 50,000 students, hundreds of schools, and teachers since its launch in 2020.

By turning everyday purchases into impactful donations, BIC continues to champion education and empower future generations.
