Vibrant Hon. Mary Maingi Super Cup Closes Season 2 with Thrilling Finals, Cultural Showcase

Thousands of fans, performers, and dignitaries packed Wang’uru International Stadium in Mwea this past Sunday as the Hon. Mary Maingi Super Cup Football Tournament wrapped up its second season in spectacular fashion.

The tournament, now a cornerstone of grassroots sports in the region, showcased fierce competition, electrifying performances, and a powerful message of youth empowerment.

A total of 90 teams battled through the season, culminating in high-stakes finals that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.

The women’s final saw Kutus Queens triumph over Mukou Queens 5-4 on penalties after a 1-1 draw, while the men’s final ended in a nail-biting shootout, with Kiriko edging out Kinyaga 7-6 following another 1-1 stalemate.

In the men’s third-place playoff, Ndorome secured a 2-0 victory over Murubara. Beyond the pitch, the event pulsed with energy as celebrated artists Wadagliz (of Anguka Nayo fame) and Joyce Wa Mama, the queen of Mugithi, delivered electrifying performances, turning the stadium into a cultural carnival.

Hon. Mary Maingi, Mwea MP, praised the players, coaches, and fans for their passion and sportsmanship.

“This tournament proves what we can achieve when we invest in our youth,” she declared. “Football unites us—it shows that hard work, peace, and teamwork can transform Mwea.”

She urged young athletes to stay focused and avoid divisive politics, emphasizing that their talent will drive the constituency’s future.

Hon. Maingi also thanked national and county leaders, including His Excellency the President and Kirinyaga County officials, for their support. “We’re just getting started,” she vowed, hinting at an even bigger Season 3.

Mwea East Deputy County Commissioner Fred Ayieko reinforced the government’s commitment to youth development through sports, highlighting initiatives to combat drug abuse by engaging young people in constructive activities.

With thrilling matches, vibrant performances, and a resounding call for unity, the Hon. Mary Maingi Super Cup cemented its place as a premier platform for talent and community spirit in Mwea.
