As Kenya’s devolved governance system drives development at the grassroots level, Bangbet Kenya is stepping up its corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts with a scalable model designed for county-wide impact.
The recent launch of Changing Lives Powered by Bangbet showcased how private-sector initiatives can align with local needs beyond Nairobi.
At the event in Lord Erroll Gardens, Runda, Bangbet unveiled two key interventions. First, the company injected Ksh 1,000,000 into St. Mary’s Hospital to help clear medical bills for detained patients through the Bangbet Hospital Support Fund.
Second, as part of the Friends of Bangbet Empowerment Drive, selected beneficiaries received essential tools such as motorcycles, TVs, and household appliances to enhance their livelihoods.
David Gichuchi, CEO of Bangbet Kenya, emphasized the program’s nationwide vision. “This isn’t just about Nairobi. We’re committed to supporting Kenyans in Isiolo, Kisii, Mombasa, Turkana every region has unique challenges, and we want to address them,” he said.
The initiative’s adaptable framework allows counties to tailor interventions to local needs. In pastoral regions, funds could support mission hospitals, while coastal counties might focus on youth employment through digital or transport-based tools.
Healthcare leaders welcomed the move
Dr. Rose Nafula, CEO of St. Mary’s Hospital, noted, “Many hospitals hold patients who can’t pay bills. This model can ease the burden, especially where NHIF coverage is low.”
The Betting Control and Licensing Board (BCLB) praised Bangbet’s ethical approach.
Rev. Dr. Jane Mwikali Makau, BCLB Chairperson, called it “a benchmark for licensed operators nationwide.”
Critically, the event avoided any betting promotions, keeping the focus squarely on social impact.
Beneficiaries, chosen through community engagements, represented Kenya’s resilient spirit farmers, riders, and small-business owners gaining tools to thrive.
Bangbet plans to expand the Hospital Support Fund to at least two more counties by year-end, partnering with local health facilities and youth groups.
“Devolution lets us localize our impact,” Gichuchi said. “We’ll listen first, then act.” If successfully scaled, Changing Lives Powered by Bangbet could set a new standard for private-sector CSR across all 47 counties.
